Day 2: Wednesday, April 22, 2009, Take 2

Here are the rest:

Neither of these photos is really good, but I've taken a lot of photos of birds and just felt the need to include one...or two. The first one would be better if the bird was sharper and the background wasn't so distracting. That's a start. The second one would be better if the bird were looking. I love cardinals.

I took this picture out by a barn (see next picture) by the church building. I though it was a nice sunset picture with an old-timey landscape look.

I guess it's not a barn. More like a barn-ish house with a silo. Anyway, doesn't it look nice? Those flowers (weeds?) were all over this huge field in front of it and there were birds (probably crows or cowbirds) swooping in and out of it. Looks like those are some corn stalks as well.

Well, that's it for today!

Day 2: Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Today (and on probably several other days) I don't have just one favorite photo, so I'm just going to go ahead and submit several.

Pretty flower in one of the pots on the back porch.

I took so many pictures of Ari I just couldn't bear to leave them ALL out even if none of them were stellar. I like this one because you can actually see the piece of bread she's throwing to the fishies. Obviously the color is off - I'm still figuring out settings. I'm pretty sure I had it on "tungsten lighting" mode for the majority of the day today...

Can you find the frog?

Our neighbors (the Nicholsons) are champion gardeners and therefore have a BEAUTIFUL garden. They also happen to be fabulous people in general and therefore let Ari and I (and anyone else) wander around their yard at any time. I thought these two of their ferns turned out really cool. They may be my favorite.

A bee who is also taking advantage of the Nicholsons' hospitality. I would like this one better if I'd manually focused it and the focus had been more centered on the bee and his (or her) flower.

Blogger is being odd, so this post is to be continued.

Side-note

I have to say I was quite pleased just now when I realized that my profile picture is of me with a camera, even though the camera I'm holding is not my current one. I thought I'd also mention that ironically (somewhat) I was wearing that same sweater when I got my new camera yesterday.

Day 1: Tuesday, April 21, 2009

Some of you (Gen) may have heard of the 365 days project. For those of you who have not, it is where a person endeavors to take at least one photo per day for 365 days and then chooses the best photo of each day to put on a blog. Actually, I don't know whether the "put it on a blog" part is really part of the purist definition of it because I'm getting this all second hand, but it will be part of my 365 days project, which is really what matters. The purpose that shall supposedly motivate me to do this for all 365 days is A.) autobiographical - I want those who come after me to think I am neat B.) educational - hopefully this will help me to improve on my photography and C.) I couldn't come up with a good adjective for "C," so I'll just tell you that the third purpose is for me to improve on my writing and help me to write more since I'll try to write a bit for each blog entry as well. Enough on that, let's talk about this picture!

So, on this same day (which is actually yesterday) I received my new, much anticipated, camera! A Canon XSi with a Sigma 18 - 200mm, 3.5 - 5.6 f OS HSM lens. In layman's terms, I got a new camera and it's BIG. Maybe one day my camera will take a self portrait and allow you all to see it. I didn't get the camera until about 6:30pm, so I rushed home, snapped as many shots as I could before the sun went down (all of which turned out bad because I am still having a hard time finding all the settings and figuring out how to change them), snapped a few more inside before my battery ran out, then snapped a few more after my battery charged for two hours. This picture was taken in that last session, when I didn't feel like getting out of bed, but wanted to take photos. The subject is the stuffed animal that I (still) sleep with (quite often), whose name is Bagge (pronounced like "Doggy" but with a "B" and spelled "Bagge" because it also happened to be the name of my 4th grade Math teacher. I hadn't really considered how to spell it until then and couldn't think of spelling any other way after). I think he looks quite distinguished here, with my glasses on. I have a lot of respect for him.
